Wednesday Highlights from the 2016 Wild Card Reining Challenge

by Christy Egan
May 26th, 2016

The 2016 Wild Card Reining Challenge burst on the Reining scene this morning in Las Vegas, Nevada bringing with it the Four-Year-Old Futurity … an idea whose time has finally come! This brand new show, running over Memorial Day weekend, May 25th through 29th at the South Point Event Center, Hotel and Casino, is the newest of the four major reining competitions presented annually by the Scottsdale, Arizona-based Brumley Management Group, LLC.

“The Wild Card Reining Challenge is a huge step outside the box for the U.S. Reining Horse industry, focusing on a new train of thought — the 4-year-old reining futurity horse,” said Amanda Brumley, whose company Brumley Management Group, LLC is producing the show. “Everything about this new show challenges people to open their minds to new ideas and learn where our industry is now and where it needs to be for a positive outcome going forward.”

The Reining began early today with a nice win in both the Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro for Robyn Schiller of Hollister, California and CD Star Commander, owned by Warwick Schiller Performance. Schiller and CD Star Commander turned in a 72, the high score of the day. Shaunda Ruckman and Valentino Tag were second in the Non Pro with a 71.5. Kim Niven teamed White Gunpowder to the win in the Prime Time Non Pro, Steve Tyner won the NP Masters on Stepintomymercedes, Custom Made Nic and Elaine Davis won the Limited Non Pro, and Catherine Ferandelli won the Non Pro Breed Restricted on Little Bit Of Boom.

Thursday, things heat up considerably as the show presents the $10,000 Added SmartPak Non Pro Maturity, the Arabians look forward to hot competition in the ARBC $15,000 Added Arabian Open 4 & 5-year-Old Futurity and the World Para Reining Challenge Team competes for $2,500.

Beginning on Friday morning the Horse And Rider free educational seminars will focus on topics like judging, sports medicine, training, breeding and nutrition, conducted by such experts as Veterinarian, Kris Crowe, 4-Million Dollar NRHA Trainer, Andrea Fappani and NRHA Judges’ Committee Chairman, Jody Brainard.
